desert lakes

Located about 45 kilometers north of Ghadames, Ain Eddban is a distinctive Saharan formation composed of two adjacent saline lakes set within a vast desert plain. The nearly circular basins stand out against the surrounding arid landscape, where surface water is exceptionally rare.
From above, their shapes resemble the eyes of a fly, a visual feature that inspired the Arabic name ʿAyn al-Dhibān (عين الذبان). These isolated lakes form a rare hydrological feature in an otherwise hyper-arid environment, adding an unexpected element of water and geometry to the desert landscape.
